SMART Sourcing at Kraft Foods

Following the merger of its "Biscuits" and "Foods" activities in Benelux, Kraft Foods is relocating its business units to Mechelen (250 employees, 6000 m²) and Oosterhout (85 employees, 2000 m²). MCS performed several studies for selecting the proper locations. Kraft Foods already contracted a service provider for managing the FM services in both offices. MCS assisted Kraft Foods during the tender process.

When preparing and/or implementing an outsourcing project several aspects of the subcontracting process have to be taken into account. For this reason MCS developed SMART Sourcing. The purpose of this unique 'Facility Estate Concept' is to offer an answer to the many risks and challenges involved in outsourcing.

In preparation of this relocation, MCS has performed several studies to make sure Kraft Foods is choosing the best location for its activities. These studies included a location analysis, building analysis, analysis of needs and expectations, and an analysis of all facility related processes.

Now the buildings are chosen and the layout is finalized, the process of setting up facilities is in full preparation. Kraft Foods Europe chooses to aim for one external supplier for all facility related processes, so writing a tender was the first step. Now the partner is selected, all procedures and Service Level Agreements can be finalized.

Because of the limited internal knowledge on the topic of facility management, Kraft Foods contacted MCS to support them in creating a facilities department. MCS can offer expertise in the wide range of domains within facility management and real estate and assures Kraft Foods no elements are overlooked.

MCS is currently consulting with one-shot activities like a Quick Scans, tendering support and other specific consultancy assignments. For this MCS uses its advanced software tools to ensure optimal support to Kraft Foods. Also is there an agreement to involve a facility expert from MCS continuously in the move project to monitor all facility related issues.

MCS is coordinating the move process for Kraft Foods and supports Kraft Foods in its communication process towards employees. This aims to create a positive atmosphere around the project to lower the resistance for change.

In this way Kraft Foods is assured that all facilities are outsourced in a SMART way and so create added value for employees who will be welcomed in Kraft Foods new business unit locations.
